8:00-9:00 Bridge the Gap We’ll dive into the technique that turns footwork into a smooth waltz: frame, connection, leading and following with the body, movement mechanics, balance, momentum, and floorcraft.
Terrell Ibanez
Terrell picked up social waltz in 2022 during his three years as research staff/teaching fellow at Stanford. Since then, he has trained at Viennese waltz camps in Washington, D.C., danced as a debutant and assisted with choreography for the 2024 Orlando Charity Gala Ball, and joined the Academy of Danse Libre as a performing member for the 2024-2025 season.
In West Coast Swing Jack and Jill competitions, he has placed as a lead and made finals as a follow. The random-partner, random-song format rewards true leading and following, and that’s what he teaches: signaling technique rather than patterns, built from first principles. To him, the “why” matters as much as the “what.”
He DJed for over a decade before he took up dancing. Technical theater sound engineering led him to become an EDM/Top 40 format DJ in 2010. Since becoming a dancer, he has DJed socials and competitions for large events such as the Stanford Viennese Ball, FanimeCon’s Black & White Ball, Cardinal Classic, and Mountain Magic Dance Convention. He has professionally DJed for dance events from Lake Tahoe to NYC, and even competed, placing 3rd in the SF regional of the nationwide 2024 ATX ROX DJ Battle for West Coast Swing. Drawing on experience and music theory from classical training, he builds sets for inspired musicality you can catch without knowing the song.

Anna
Anna’s dance journey began at age 5 with traditional Chinese dance and ballet, and now includes hip-hop, K-pop, and C-pop. She discovered social dance in 2023 from Nick and Melissa Enge’s classes at UT Austin and has continued to pursue it under Richard Powers at Stanford, where she frequents Dancebreak and has joined the 49th Stanford Viennese Ball Opening Committee. Her years of TAing Electrical and Computer Engineering at UT and Stanford have fostered an appreciation for analogies and alternative explanations, and she delights in the “aha!” moment from helping students develop aAkash Verma is djing tonight from 9:00 to 11:45
Akash discovered ballroom dancing in the Bay Area in 2017 and has been dancing ever since. He's drawn to dances where he's drawn to the music, and loves to explore and share both.
